Liverpool Lions - About Basketball - BUSA Rules and Regulations

 
 

 

BAS 1 The Basketball Championships shall be conducted in accordance with the BUSA regulations and the Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) rules of play, as interpreted by the Basketball Management Group, with the following exceptions:

  • BAS 1.1 Allowable shirt numbers will be 4 — 15, 20 — 25, 30 — 35, 40 — 45, 50 — 55.
  • BAS 1.2 24 second shot clocks shall be required in all men s and women s Premier League matches and First Team Championship knockout ties. There shall be no requirement for 24-second shot clocks in any other matches; this responsibility shall lie with the referees.
  • BAS 1.3 For all men s competitions in all categories the ball shall not be less than 74.9cm and not more than 78cm in circumference (size 7). It shall not weigh less than 567 g and not more than 650 g
  • BAS 1.4 For all women s competitions in all categories the ball shall not be less than 72.4cm and not more than 73.7cm in circumference (size 6). It shall not weigh less than 510 g and not more than 567 g

BAS 2 Premier & Conference League Matches

  • BAS 2.1 In all league matches points awarded will be three points for a win and no points for a loss.
  • BAS 2.2 As per FIBA rules there is no drawn result in a basketball game. Should the teams be tied at the end of normal time, then a period of five minutes extra time will be played.
  • BAS 2.3 If the teams are still tied at the end of this extra period of five minutes, additional periods of five minutes extra time shall be played until a winner is determined.
  • BAS 2.4 In the event of a tie in League points, teams will be split according to REG 14.10 and REG 14.11.

BAS 3 Championship Final Eight Tournament

  • BAS 3.1 The eight participating teams shall play in a tournament structure to be decided by the management group. It will follow a knockout format in the first instance.
  • BAS 3.3 All teams must register on day one (usually a Friday) prior to tip-off.
  • BAS 3.4 All teams must re-register at the desk before tip-off for every game on days two and three (usually Saturday and Sunday). Teams who fail to re-register may be considered to have forfeited the match.
  • BAS 3.5 All teams will play three matches in the tournament, usually one per day. Teams must fulfil all fixtures during the tournament — forfeiture of any matches will result in Disciplinary Committee action as per REG 16.11.1
  • BAS 3.6 In General the Draw for the Last 16 of the BUSA Basketball Championship shall be seeded so that the top 4 teams shall each have a home draw and not meet until semi-final stage.

BAS 4 Affiliations

  • BAS 4.1 All teams/institutes competing in the British Universities Basketball Championships must affiliate to their respective National Governing Body (NGB).
  • BAS 4.2 All players competing in the British Universities Basketball Championships must affiliate to their respective NGB. This covers all BUSA fixtures as well as local league fixtures.
  • BAS 4.3 All players competing in the BUSA men and women’s Basketball Premier Leagues must hold a valid photo licence issued either via BUSA or their National Governing Body. Players must be able to present these licenses at each fixture should they be requested to do so.
  • BAS 4.4 Failure to affiliate to a National Governing body will result in a team/institution being removed from the BUSA Basketball competition.

BAS 5 Score Sheets

  • The home team must forward an official scoresheet of each match to the BUSA Office. Failure to return a scoresheet to the BUSA Office within 10 days of the original fixture will result in a £10 fine.

 

BASKETBALL SIZES FOR 2004-2005 SEASON

Please note the following FIBA Regulations on basketball sizes for the 2004-2005 season.

  • For all women’s competitions in all categories the ball shall not be less then 72.4cm and not more than 73.7cm in circumference (size 6). It shall not weigh less than 510 g and not more than 567 g.
  • For all men’s competitions in all categories the ball shall not be less than 74.9cm and not more than 78cm in circumference (size 7). It shall not weigh less than 567 g and not more than 650 g.
